That's why 2 to 3 seconds is the right thing to do: you don't want more air in the system, so you'll need to refill carefully. The pump, if working properly, should drink fluid from the reservoir rapidly. I would consider putting the car on jack stands, taking all the old fluid out of the reservoir, directing the return line into a 1 liter soda bottle, then refilling the reservoir to the top with fresh, bubble free fluid.Īt that point, crank it for just 2 or 3 seconds you can either pull the fuel pump fuse or not, depending on whether you're paranoid about running the fuel injectors dry. If it is sucking bubbles from the reservoir, it will remain so. The system sounds as if it might be airlocked at this point. I can't guarantee this will work, but it seems to me that one thing to try before a new pump is a standard power steering flush with fresh CHF11S fluid. If I start it the fluid will just overflow almost instantly.Ĭould this be the power steering pump causing it? Its obvious air is in the system and seems no matter how long I rotate the steering wheel it never gets rid of any or is sucking it in constantly. I listened for air around the hoses when turning the wheel. I'm so stumped what could be causing this? Its lost alot of fluid but the resevior is still not losing any fluid. I rotated the steering wheel left to right and its still bubbling like crazy when going right it almost bubbles over in the resevior without the cap on. So then I reclamped all the hoses I could get to and jacked the car up. I cut the car off but the fluid continued to rise and just spilled over. ![]() Yesterday was the first day i've had a chance to mess with it took the cap off the resevior and started it no knocking sounds but almost immediately the fluid started to rise up,foaming, bubbling etc. About that time power steering fluid came blasting out of the resevior cap thru the tiny breather hole on the cap. The next day I start it and rev it over 4k and the sound got drowned out so at that point I was thinking it was something else again i'm brand new to these vehicles. I drove it down the street and came back thinking it might be rod knock or something going on in the valvetrain. After 2 weeks of owning it she pulled in from work and it seemed to be knocking almost like rod knock but not near as bad. I absolutely loved the car myself its a really nice car. ![]() We bought it a month ago with 109k all maintaince records etc. I currently drive a CRV but my wife wanted something better on gas then the V8 and fell in love with a 00 passat a guy had posted cheap. I've came from the honda world and can repair, rebuild and diagnose just about anything on them. ![]() Okay I'll be honest here i'm a first time volkswagen owner and honestly this car looks to be a pita to work on.
